Question 36

Section 14: Lord’s Day 14

What profit dost thou receive by Christ’s holy conception and nativity?

That he is our mediator;a and with his innocence and perfect holiness, covers in the sight of God, my sins, wherein I was conceived and brought forth!b

  1. a. Hebrews 2:16–17

    Hebrews 2:16–17

2:16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

2:16 For surely it is not the angels He helps, but the descendants of Abraham. 2:17 For this reason He had to be made like His brothers in every way, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, in order to make atonement for the sins of the people.

  2. b. Psalm 32:1; 1 Corinthians 1:30; Romans 8:34

    Psalm 32:1

32:1 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

32:1 Of David. A Maskil. Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.

    1 Corinthians 1:30

1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

1:30 It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God: our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.

    Romans 8:34

8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

8:34 Who is there to condemn us? For Christ Jesus, who died, and more than that was raised to life, is at the right hand of God-and He is interceding for us.
